How to do the cross test to verify if the problem is on switch?

Scenario

Sometimes, people may encounter that their PD suddenly can’t power on or their fiber port somehow link down. To verify the problem, try to do the cross test as below:

 

Step

  1. PD suddenly can’t power on then you can do:
  • Change cable
  • Change another PD
  • Change PD to another PoE port
  • Change PD to another PoE switch

 

  1. Fiber port somehow link down then you can do:
  • Change fiber cable
  • Plug the transceiver to another fiber port
  • Plug the transceiver to another switch
  • Change another transceiver

 

Verification

For PD suddenly can't power on:

If changing cable works, that means the cable is broken.

If changing PD works, that means the PD is broken.

If changing port works, that means the port is broken.

If changing switch works, that means the PoE board on switch is broken.

 

For fiber port somehow link down:

If changing fiber cable works, that means the fiber cable is broken.

If changing another fiber port works, that means the fiber port is broken.

If changing switch works, that means the switch ay somehow has problem.

If changing transceiver works, that means the transceiver is broken.

 

Note: Zyxel only guarantees Zyxel’s transceiver can work properly on our switch.
