How to configure PPTP VPN on the SBG5500 and a Windows PC?

Scenario

The document explains the configuration steps on the SBG5500-A and a Windows PC (Windows 7 based).

Step

SBG5500-A

  1. Make sure the WAN connection is up.
  2. Go to PPTP VPN GUI page (Configuration > VPN > PPTP VPN).
  3. Enable the feature, and apply the settings. The IP address pool is “10.7.1.33” to “10.7.1.64” by default. In this example the IP address pool is changed to “192.168.50.25” to “192.168.5.34”.
  4. Go to Device Service GUI page (Configuration > Firewall/Security > Device Service).
  5. From PPTP profile, enable the PPTP connection from WAN. In this example, “Any WAN” is enabled.

Windows PC

  1. Go to “Network and Sharing Center”. Select “Set up a new connection or network”.
  2. Select “Connect to a workplace”. Click on “Next”.
  3. Select “Use my Internet connection (VPN)”.
  4. Fill in the PPTP server’s IP address, tick “Don’t connect now”, and click on “Next”. In this example, the PPTP server’s IP address is “10.24.44.32”.
  5. Fill in the “User name” and “Password”. The username and password of the PPTP connection are the same as the SBG5500’s web GUI’s. Click on “Create”.
  6. You can see a VPN connection profile. Select the VPN profile and click on “Connect”.
  7. Select “Properties”.
  8. Go to “Security” tab. Select “Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)” as “Type of VPN”. Click on “OK”.
  9. Click on “Connect”.

Verification

After connecting to the PPTP server, check whether the PC has a new network interface with a leased IP address within “192.168.50.25” to “192.168.50.34”.
