Why does Anti-Spam function not support "drop" POP3 mail?

Question

I would like to drop the spam mail from the Internet. There is drop function on SMTP protocol but not POP3.

Why does Anti-Spam function not support "drop" POP3 mail?

Answer

The Anti-Spam function is able to "Disconnect(Drop)" or "Forward" the mail session when it detects the mail as spam.

The SMTP protocol is for "sending" mail. If the mail session is disconnected few times, then client will stop transmitting the mail.

The POP3 protocol is for "receiving" mail and downloading mail from the mail server. If Anti-Spam disconnects the POP3 session, then the mail session will be disconnected but the spam mail still exists on the mail server.

The spam mail will always exist on the mail server until it has been downloaded or deleted.

Because this kind of scenario always causes your mail session to be disconnected, and affects network loading, USG does not support "drop" in POP3 protocol.
