How can users connect to HTTPS WebDAV shared folders on Windows 7?

Scenario

How can users connect to HTTPS WebDAV shared folders on Windows 7?

Step

Due to the Windows 7 security enforcement, users cannot connect to WebDAV folders from Windows 7 by default.
Refer to the Microsoft documentation, KB841215 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841215), in order to decrease the security level on Windows 7.

1. Open the registry editor: click "Start" and type "regedit".

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WebClient\Parameters.

3. Change the value of BasicAuthLevel to 2 (i.e., "BasicAuthLevel"=dword:00000002).

4. Open Computer Management: click "Start", select "Computer" and right-click "Manage".

5. Select and double click WebClient (Services and Application > Services).

6. Change the Startup type to "Automatic" and click OK.

7. Select "WebClient" and click Start or Restart.

8. Enable WebDAV on the NAS device (Sharing > WebDAV).

9. Confirm that "(FQDN of the NAS device)" is correct (System Setting > Server Name).

10. Open the Command Prompt (click "Start" and type "cmd"), type ping "(FQDN of the NAS device)" and check that it is successful.

11. Type net use [Disk]: \\https:\\[the FQDN of NAS device]:5003/webdav/[sharename] /user:[name] [password] /persistent:yes (for example: net use W: \\https:\\nas520:5003/webdav/video /user:admin 1234 /persistent:yes).
