How to configure inter-routing between different VLANs?

Scenario

Users from different VLANs want to reach each other and access the Internet. How can we configure XGS4526 to provide such connectivity?

Step

GS2200-24 as a layer 2 switch locates users in different VLANs.

Step1: Configure static VLAN on GS2200-24.

Step2: Configure port settings on GS2200-24.

XGS4526 as a layer 3 switch provides an inter-routing function to route traffic among different VLANs. XGS4526 also routes traffic from LAN users to the Internet via its default gateway NAT router.

Step 3: Configure static VLAN on XGS4526.

Step 4: Configure IP Setup on XGS4526.

NAT router routes traffic from Internet to LAN hosts via XGS4526. Thus static route should be configured on NAT router or RIP should be enabled both on NAT router & XGS4526.

Step 5: Configure NAT router. We take ZyWALL as an example.

Step 6: Configure Static routes on NAT router.

Verification

With step 4, we can see different IP domains are automatically added into the routing table. This is how a switch routes traffic among different VLANs.

1. Hosts in VLAN40 can reach hosts in VLAN 30.

2. Hosts in VLAN40 can access the Internet.
